How We Verify Hospital Addresses, Phone Numbers and Appointment Routes

Hospital information changes. Campuses merge, outpatient clinics move, phone numbers are replaced and visiting policies update. Our verification workflow is built to reduce those errors before a page is published and to fix them quickly after publication.

Primary Verification Sources

We prefer sources controlled by the hospital, a state or territory health authority, a national official directory, a regulator or a recognised government health data body.

Information typePreferred verification source
Hospital name and campusOfficial hospital website, state/territory health department profile, Healthdirect Service Finder / National Health Services Directory, AIHW MyHospitals where applicable.
Address and locationHospital contact page, official state health service location page, Healthdirect service profile and map details.
Phone numbersHospital switchboard/contact page, health service directory entry or state/territory health authority listing.
Appointment routeOfficial outpatient, clinic, referral, patient booking or contact page published by the hospital/health service.
Doctors/practitionersHospital profile pages where published, plus Ahpra register context for registration checks where relevant.
Safety and quality contextAustralian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, AIHW hospital statistics and official accreditation references.
Patient records and portalsHospital medical records pages, My Health Record context, state/territory digital health services and hospital patient portal pages.

Four-Step Human Check

  1. Collect the keyword and intended hospital. We identify whether the keyword is a real hospital, a campus, a branch, a suburb query, or a generic term that should not become a page.
  2. Match the official entity.Editors match the hospital name to a location and state/territory before writing. Same hospital names in different locations remain separate pages.
  3. Verify practical fields.Address, phone number, appointment route, official website, map context, visiting page, parking note and department links are checked from source pages.
  4. Publish with uncertainty labels. If a detail cannot be confirmed, we do not guess. The article says to confirm with the official hospital or switchboard.

Update Frequency

Page typeReview approach
Major capital-city hospital pagesPriority review cycle and rapid correction handling because search demand and user risk are higher.
Regional public hospital pagesRegular re-check of contact, address, ED, visiting and service links.
Private hospital pagesRe-check official website, appointment/contact page, branch location and ownership/network changes.
Low-volume location pagesReviewed when traffic increases, a correction is submitted, or source monitoring flags a change.
Verification does not mean endorsement

aussihospitals.org/ verifies directory facts. We do not rate hospitals, recommend treatment, endorse a provider, or decide which hospital is best for a person’s condition.
