RPH outpatient clinics are for patients who need examination or treatment but do not need to stay overnight. RPH says it receives more than 115,000 referrals and provides more than 330,000 outpatient appointments each year.

How outpatient referral works

  1. Your GP, specialist or community health provider sends a referral.
  2. The referral includes your details, history and what consultation or care is needed.
  3. Specialty doctors review the referral and assign a priority.
  4. Appointment timing is based on the priority and available clinic capacity.
  5. Most outpatients receive a letter about a month before the appointment, unless a shorter-timeframe appointment is arranged by phone or SMS.

Change, reschedule or cancel

  1. Use Manage My Care for participating clinics.
  2. Call Outpatient Direct on 1300 855 275.
  3. Use the phone number on the bottom of your appointment letter.
  4. Update address, phone number, next of kin and GP details as soon as they change.
  5. If Outpatient Direct cannot solve the issue, they may transfer you or send a message to the clinic.
