How outpatient appointments work

  1. Ask your GP, paediatrician or specialist for a referral to the correct clinic at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
  2. Referrals are commonly sent through the SCHN digital referral system, Consultmed. Parents and carers may also be given a secure upload option for a referral.
  3. Make sure the referral includes correct patient details and an email address, so referral tracking information can be sent.
  4. After the referral is reviewed, appointment details may be sent by letter, email or text message.
  5. If your child needs an interpreter, mobility support, hearing support or special equipment, call the number on the appointment information before attending.
  6. On arrival, check in using the kiosk, the NSW Check-In Patient Portal, or reception staff if directed.
