Satellite Hospital: Address, Appointment & Contact Info

Queensland public health facilities • Seven locations

Satellite Hospital addresses, appointments and contact information

“Satellite Hospital” was the former collective name for seven Queensland facilities now officially called Satellite Health Centres. There is no single Satellite Hospital address or telephone number. You must choose the correct centre in Caboolture, Kallangur, Bribie Island, Eight Mile Plains, Redland Bay, South Ripley or Tugun.

These centres are not full hospital Emergency Departments.
Call 000 for a life-threatening emergency. If you are unsure where to seek care, call 13 HEALTH on 13 43 25 84 and speak with a registered nurse.

Is “Satellite Hospital” one hospital?

No. The search term refers to Queensland’s network of community-based health facilities. In February 2025, the former Satellite Hospitals were renamed Satellite Health Centres to describe their services more clearly.

What every centre provides

Each centre has a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic for walk-in assessment of urgent but non-life-threatening conditions. These clinics help people obtain suitable care closer to home.

What differs by location

Appointment-based services vary. Depending on the centre, these may include dialysis, cancer care, day medical treatment, allied health, oral health, mental health, women’s services or specialist outpatient clinics.

Name-change note: Older appointment letters, online listings, maps and signs may still use “Satellite Hospital”. Current official Queensland Health pages use “Satellite Health Centre”. Both names may refer to the same facility, but always confirm the suburb and street address.

Should you go to a Satellite Health Centre?

Minor but urgent problem

A Minor Injury and Illness Clinic may be suitable for an urgent condition that is not expected to be life-threatening.

Life-threatening emergency

Call 000 or attend a full Emergency Department. Do not travel to a Satellite Health Centre first.

Routine or ongoing care

Contact your usual GP when the problem is not urgent. Your GP knows your medical history and can arrange follow-up or referrals.

Specialist outpatient care

Use the referral and appointment process. Do not attend an outpatient department as a walk-in unless staff specifically instruct you.

Unsure which option fits

Call 13 HEALTH and describe the symptoms to a registered nurse before travelling.

Need current wait information

Use Queensland Health’s Open Hospitals service as a general planning guide. Never rely on an online wait estimate during an emergency.

Use 000 or a full Emergency Department for serious symptoms such as chest pain, severe breathing difficulty, signs of stroke, seizures, severe allergic reaction, serious trauma, severe burns, sudden severe headache, severe abdominal pain, major bleeding or immediate danger.

Minor Injury and Illness Clinic: walk-in care

Every Queensland Satellite Health Centre has a Minor Injury and Illness Clinic. These clinics generally operate from 8:00am to 10:00pm, seven days a week.

Appointment and referral rules

  • No appointment is required for the walk-in clinic.
  • No referral is required for the walk-in clinic.
  • Care is free for eligible Medicare card holders.
  • Patients are assessed and treated according to clinical urgency.
  • You may be redirected or transferred if the centre cannot safely provide the required care.

Examples of problems treated

Fever, cough or cold Rash or simple infection Earache or toothache Minor eye problems Simple fractures Sprains and strains Minor cuts and wounds Minor burns Minor head injuries
Children’s eligibility varies by location. For example, Eight Mile Plains, Redlands and Ripley state that babies must be older than three months, while Tugun states that children must be at least 24 months old. Confirm the exact centre’s rules or call 13 HEALTH before travelling with a young child.

Walk-in visit: micro step-by-step

Check for emergency warning signs first. If the person has life-threatening or severe symptoms, call 000. Do not delay emergency care by driving to a Satellite Health Centre.
Confirm the centre can treat the patient. Open the official Queensland Satellite Health Centres page and then select the relevant facility.
Call 13 HEALTH if you remain unsure. Phone 13 43 25 84 and describe the patient’s age, symptoms, severity and how long the problem has been present.
Check current hours and travel directions. Confirm that the Minor Injury and Illness Clinic is open and use the exact street address rather than searching only for “Satellite Hospital”.
Bring useful health information. Take the patient’s Medicare card, medicines or medicine list, allergy information and any relevant recent medical paperwork.
Report worsening symptoms immediately. Tell clinic staff if the patient’s condition changes while waiting. Staff may redirect or arrange transfer when more advanced hospital care is required.

Specialist and outpatient appointments

The walk-in clinic and specialist outpatient services use different access pathways. A person can walk into the Minor Injury and Illness Clinic without an appointment, but other services generally require a referral, an accepted booking or an existing treatment plan.

Ask your GP or treating clinician about the referral. Confirm which service is required and whether the referral should go to Metro North, Metro South, West Moreton or Gold Coast Health.
Make sure the referral names the correct location. Some specialist services operate across multiple hospitals and health centres. A referral to a health service does not always guarantee the closest centre.
Wait for clinical assessment and appointment instructions. The receiving service reviews the referral, decides its priority and contacts the patient if an appointment is offered.
Use the direct clinic number on your letter. The direct contact is usually the best number for confirming, cancelling or rescheduling an existing appointment.
Call the centre if the clinic number is missing. Use the facility telephone number listed above and give the clinic name, patient details and appointment date when requested.
Check preparation instructions before attending. Confirm the exact arrival time, entrance, fasting requirements, medicines, tests and whether a driver or support person is required.

What to bring

  • Appointment letter or SMS.
  • Medicare card and photo identification.
  • Relevant concession or DVA card.
  • Current medicine and allergy list.
  • Requested scans, test results or reports.
  • Referral details when requested.
  • Glasses, hearing aids or mobility equipment.

If you cannot attend

  • Call the clinic as early as possible.
  • Do not assume an unanswered call automatically cancels the booking.
  • Ask whether the appointment can be rescheduled.
  • Update your phone and address if they have changed.
  • Return to your GP if your condition worsens while waiting.
